Dr. Sunder S. Thakur (Sheel)
Born in Tewaripur, UP, Sheel was educated in Bombay. He left for higher studies at Columbia University, New York, after completing his Mechanical Engineering. On receiving Doc. Eng. Sc. (Operations Research) from Columbia, he joined IBM as a management scientist and worked in different Corporate and HQ strategic & operational planning functions for many years. In between, he taught computer courses at the City University of New York for two years, as an IBM Visiting Professor.
Sheel was a key member of the IBM management team, which started IBM Global Services in Bangalore. While here on assignment for six years, he established the Bangalore Chapter of Project Management Institute in 1998 to train and certify project managers. He has started his own consulting firm, and plans to spend time between India and USA.
Mr. Krishna K. Bess, General Manager, State Bank of India, Sagar
Born in 1958 at Jabalpur, Krishna joined the State Bank of India in 1982 after completing his Masters Degree in Electronics for Jabalpur University. He earned additional diplomas in Banking and Information Technology. His experience of more than 20 years in various capacities like development of human resources, leading the change from manual banking system to fully computerized environment and managing the implementation of technological advancements have been the highlights of his tenure at SBI.
Krishna has been associated with the Committee for Technical Upgradation of the State Bank in Madhya Pradesh and has led his team in successful implementation of various key tasks viz. networking, computerization of branches, installation of ATM’s, Financial Messaging Systems and various other similar areas. He is an individual with excellent coordinating skills and leadership capabilities. Krishna has actively participated in REaD meetings with Asha representatives and RK College administrators in Kanpur during 2002-9 and plans to visit Tewaripur in near the future to assist in the implementation of the planned activities.
Dr. Nirupama C. Nigam, Scientist (Retd.), Cheshire, CT 06410
Born and brought up in Mumbai, India. After completing her M.Sc. from Bombay University, in 1980, she served as lecturer in Chemistry in degree colleges of Mumbai for two years and as a “Scientific officer” of Government of India for 29 years until 2012. Her research work is in the field of Radio-analytical Chemistry of actinide elements.
She has authored many scientific publications and is a life member of many scientific societies (Indian Nuclear Society – INS, Indian Association of Nuclear Chemists and Allied Scientists – IANCAS, Indian Society for Mass Spectrometry -ISMAS and Indian Society for Electro-analytical Chemistry – ISEAC).
She conducted studies in “Radiometric Techniques for the Determination of Actinides” and acquired her Doctorate degree in Chemistry from University of Mumbai in 2012. With this academic background and extensive experiences in research & educational, she wants to assist underprivileged rural communities by online computer education and vocational training.
Mukta Verma – Program Director
Mukta Verma is passionate about girls education and women empowerment, especially in rural areas of India. She has mentored in non-profits for the cause of womens. She has a Masters degree in Computer Science and lives with her family in Northern Virginia.
